The Story in the Wood
The core of this cross is Walnut, a hardwood native to North America and long regarded as one of the most classic cabinet woods. It is known for its rich chocolate tones, ranging from lighter brown to deeper, almost black hues, often with subtle variation in the grain.
Walnut was chosen for the core because of that familiarity. It is a wood people recognize, not for how bold it is, but for how it feels—warm, steady, and enduring. It carries a sense of permanence without needing to draw attention to itself.
Over time, Walnut develops a soft luster as it is handled and exposed to light, adding depth without dramatically changing its tone.
From there, the core is wrapped in successive layers of Teak, Maple, Red Oak, and finally capped with Wenge. Each of these woods sits within a similar tonal range, building a composition that feels cohesive and grounded. The Maple introduces a lighter note, while Red Oak brings a subtle warmth that may deepen over time. The Wenge at the outer edge provides a quiet boundary, framing the piece without overpowering it.
This is a piece defined less by contrast and more by presence—where the materials work together to create something that feels balanced, familiar, and built to last.
