The Story in the Wood

The core of this cross is African Mahogany, a hardwood long associated with fine furniture and enduring craftsmanship. Known for its strength and stability, it carries a rich tone that deepens over time, moving from a softer hue when freshly cut into a darker, more refined red-brown.

African Mahogany was chosen for the core because of that character. It brings a sense of permanence to the piece—something steady, grounded, and meant to last.

From there, the core is wrapped in successive layers of Curly Maple, Red Oak, Walnut, and finally capped with Bocote. The Maple and Red Oak introduce moments of contrast, but the overall composition remains anchored in deeper tones. Walnut builds on the richness of the core, while the Bocote adds a darker, more active outer edge that completes the structure.
