The Story in the Wood
The core of this cross is Hard Maple, a North American hardwood known for its strength, durability, and light, creamy tone. It carries a clean, even surface with a subtle warmth that deepens slightly over time, but always remains on the lighter end of the spectrum.
Maple was chosen for the core because of that clarity. It provides a bright, stable foundation—something that doesn’t compete, but allows the rest of the piece to build outward from it.
From there, the core is wrapped in successive layers of Ash, Teak, Limba Black, and finally capped with Zebrawood. The Ash reinforces the lighter tone of the Maple, while Teak begins to introduce warmth. The Limba Black adds contrast through its natural streaking and small variations, giving the piece a more organic and slightly rustic character.
The outer layer of Zebrawood brings movement to the edge, with its bold striping creating a sense of motion that frames the piece without overwhelming it.
This cross carries a different kind of balance—lighter at its center, but layered with variation and contrast as it moves outward, giving it both clarity and visual energy.
