The Story in the Wood
The core of this cross is Zebrawood, a hardwood native to West Africa, particularly Gabon and Cameroon. It is known for its bold, striped grain, where light and dark bands run through the wood with a natural rhythm.
Zebrawood was chosen for the core because of that distinctive character. The pattern gives the piece a sense of movement, making the core feel alive and drawing your eye across the surface in a way that is both vibrant and unique.
From there, the core is wrapped in successive layers of Red Oak, Padauk, Maple, and finally capped with Wenge. The warmer tones of Red Oak and Padauk build into the lighter Maple, before transitioning into the deep, grounding presence of Wenge along the outer edge.
Each layer works together to support the energy of the Zebrawood, allowing the core to remain the focal point while the surrounding woods bring balance and depth to the piece.
